With a history dating back to 1925 when two shafts were sunk 691m and 688m to the Top Hard seam by the Bolsover Colliery Company, Thoresby Colliery at Edwinstowe, Notts, has been one of the country's most consistent coal producers.
Linked underground with the neighbouring Welbeck Colliery, Thoresby will be concentrating production in a new area of reserves in the Deep Soft seam some 830m below ground.
Employing 500 people, Thoresby produces coal for the Midlands power stations it is strategically located to serve as well as industrial and domestic qualities.
Annual output for 2006 = approx 1.5 Mtonnes
Annual output for 2007 = approx 1.4 Mtonnes
