Thoresby colliery is located at Edwinstowe, Nottinghamshire, and dates back to 1925, when two shafts were sunk 691 metres and 688 metres below ground to the Top Hard seam by the Bolsover colliery Company. Linked underground with the neighbouring Welbeck colliery, the Group’s intention is for Thoresby to concentrate production in a new area of reserves in the Deep Soft seam

Mining is currently taking place within the Deep Soft Seam at approximately 750 metres below ground, which has been accessed as part of the investment programme costing approximately £55 million. This investment is expected to extend the life of the mine to 2017.
