Considerable care and expertise goes into the selection and design of our Surface Mine Sites. There is Government guidance covering all aspects of the process, and the planning applications submitted by the company reflect this.
UK COAL have full and early consultation not only with the relevant planning authority, but also with many other organisations which have an interest in the likely environmental impacts.
A scoping exercise is carried out at an early stage in the planning process to identify the likely potential significant environmental impacts that would be associated with a proposal. It also determines the range and level of environmental issues to be covered during the Environmental Assessment.
Where appropriate, UK COAL employ consultants, who are expert in their field, to carry out base-line studies, evaluate impact and propose mitigation as appropriate.
Full, and early, consultation by UK COAL ensures the aims and aspirations of not only the local authorities but also local interest groups are met in the drawing up of the restoration plans for each site. Each operational site has a site liaison committee which includes representatives of the local authority and also of interested members of the public and local interest groups.
