Going underground
A look into the preperations every miner makes before going underground, and the equipment they use to safely mine coal when they reach the coal face. Safety is the biggest concern for any mining team and important steps are taken to ensure a miners safe return.
Cutting the coal on the coal face
At the coalface itself, the men work under the protection of a bank of over 100 powered roof supports, which support the roof as coal is cut from the seam. The roof supports also provide protection for an armoured face conveyor, onto which coal falls as it is cut by a coal-cutting machine known as a shearer.
Coal preparation
Coal is delivered from the coal face on a series of belt conveyors. These take the coal to the surface where it is processed and dispatched to our customers.
