Business Healthcare was founded in 1996 as the successor to the highly acclaimed British Coal Occupational Health Service. It is now part of RPS Group PLC one of Europe's leading environmental, health and safety consultancy operating as RPS Business Healthcare. Its client list includes a wide range of companies in extractive industries, construction, chemicals, steel, manufacturing and food, in addition to Government departments and major pension schemes.
RPS Business Healthcare's professional and motivated staff have a track record of partnership with UK COAL developing and providing occupational health solutions. Their joint mission is to support managers and employees in understanding and managing workplace health risks, in minimising the impact of ill-health on individuals and on the business, and to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The responsibilities of the OH team cover three main areas:
- To reduce ill-health caused by or made worse by work, ensuring that appropriate arrangements are in place for identifying and carrying out health surveillance and routine medicals where work activities present health risks.
- To assist employees and their managers who have been ill, whether caused by work or not, to return to work through support and rehabilitation programmes minimising the impact of ill-health on the business.
- To use the work environment to encourage employees to maintain or improve their health, for example promoting a healthy lifestyle.
