Safety

Health & Safety management model

The UK Coal safety way follows a management model which is a process of continuous improvement.

UK Coal Management Model

Planning (PLAN)

Planning is critical in achieving our collective goals. Effective planning will help us to focus on areas most important to UK Coal. Information gathered at the planning stage will assist to inform our training, operational controls and the scope of measurement that is required.

Implementation and operations (DO)

Our sites and financial organisations will provide resources, capability, structures and other support mechanisms to help deliver objectives and areas identified through planning. Flexibility will be required for the system to adapt to the changing requirements and demands our operations create.

Checking and assurance (CHECK)

Our operations require assurance from the management system through the appropriate day –to-day measurements, monitoring and evaluation of its performance. Correctly implemented it will provide the ability to identify ‘at risk areas’ and apply timely corrective action.

Audit and review (ACT)

Our self assessment and internal audit programmes will identify corrective actions and these will become the input into the continuous improvement cycle. Additionally, the UK Coal Safety Way will be reviewed and improvements to the process applied.
