Safety

The 12 principles

The UK Coal Safety Way is supported by 12 principles. They correspond to the continuous improvement framework and sign the way towards a renewed emphasis and improved safety performance in the company.

The 12 Principles

The system will provide a platform that allows for the strategic development of health and safety across the businesses of UK Coal.

Within each principle a series of requirements has been formulated and these elements will receive complete management support in order to achieve their objective.

This system does not set out to immediately replace existing systems or processes that exist and operate within the organisation, it does, however, expect that these are modified to meet the ethos of the standards and be replaced as this develops. As new elements are developed to support these standards, then the sites and business units will adopt these to develop the UK Coal Safety Way.
