Bewick Drift

This site is located directly to the north of the Lynemouth Power Station and to the south of Lynemouth. The proposed development comprises 3 wind turbines with a maximum output of 3 MW each and a maximum height to tip of 110 m, this compares to the stack of Lynemouth Power Station at 114 m. The site is a former coal stocking and blending area which is currently being decommissioned following which the site will be restored. The restoration plans for the site is subject to a Masterplanning exercise undertaken in conjunction with Castle Morpeth Borough Council and including input from the local community.

A planning application was made to Castle Morpeth Borough Council in October 2006. At the Development Services Committee in April 2007 the council refused planning permission for the development despite the planning officers recommending approval for the scheme. The site is currently under appeal, a hearing was held in January 2008 at Lynemouth Resource Centre, the Inspectors decision is awaited.

Further information on the project including the Non-Technical Summary can be found using the links on the right. The photomontages for Lynemouth and Snabs Point have also been updated to reflect the removal of on site plant and buildings; these can also be found using the links on the right.
